May Procession & Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Monday, May 7th after 12:00 Noon Mass
Following Mass, all are invited to process outside with Msgr. Lizor to our lovely grotto to crown the statue of Our Lady. We shall sing beautiful hymns to her and lay flowers before her. Any children who have recently celebrated their First Holy Communion are encouraged to come in their dresses and suits to help lead the procession. Let us honor our lovely mother with this beautiful tradition! Confessions will follow, and we will be serving a cake in the conference room!

Children's Storytime & Craft
Wednesday, May 16th & 30th, 10:30 am

Bring the little ones to hear Mrs. Ginny read some of the good Catholic children's books which we carry in the store. This month, we will feature two books on Mary: "Mary My Mother" and "Our Blessed Mother." A fun craft and snack will be provided. RSVP if possible so we are sure to have enough for all of our littlest patrons (but if your plans open up at the last minute, please feel free to drop in. We always have extra just in case). "Mary, Mother of the Church" Solemnity Devotions
NEW FEAST DAY! Monday, May 21st after Noon Mass
Earlier this year, Pope Francis decreed that this Marian feast day, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of the Church (Mater Ecclesiae) become universally celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost Sunday. Mary is the proud Mother of the Upper Room, overjoyed to see the Apostles emboldened through the Holy Spirit and ready to spread the Gospel far and wide. Let us join them in joyful zeal, under the mantle of protection of the Blessed Mother and pray for her intercession for the unity of the Church. We will pray a decade of the rosary and a litany to Our Lady, then cake will be served in the Confererence room.

IN THE NEWS...

Thank You for Sprucing Up
Our Lady's Chapel & Grounds!
Image
Our dedicated patrons came to our rescue once again, hauling tons of dead wood, mulching, polishing and cleaning our grounds and chapel. It was a day full of fun, laughter, cleaning, and food! Thank you to all who helped, for giving back to Our Lady for all that she has done for us! A special thank you to Elsa Kane for heading up our chapel sprucing and Doug Schenk for overseeing the outdoor clean-up.

Kneeler Cushions Get Much Needed Repair
Image
We are also very grateful to Kam Comastro and Mary Ellen Cote for taking on the job of repairing the torn pew kneelers and prie-dieux in our chapel. They even replaced the worn felt in our collection baskets. Kam and Mary Ellen make a dynamic duo getting things done. They are a force to be reckoned with, specially with power tools in hand.

Bountiful Blankets Were Blessed
Image
A boatload of blankets were blessed after Mass at OLC. Our blanketeers have been busy cutting and knotting dozens of blankets for the Linus Project, a non-profit which distributes comfort blankets to children in need in hospitals, facilities and homes around Howard County. Fr. Okoro blessed the blankets with holy water, all in attendance prayed for the children who would be receiving them, and they were then taken away for distribution. Thanks to all our volunteers! Join us on the second and forth Tuesday of every month after the Noon Mass to learn how to make them. If you can tie a knot, you can make a blanket.

An International Warrior for
Human Rights Visits OLC
Image
The Spring Defend Life Lecture Tour concluded with a compelling talk by Reggie Littlejohn: "Fighting Forced Abortion and Sexual Slavery in China." Ms. Littlejohn is the founder of "Women’s Rights Without Frontiers" and explained how any visibly pregnant woman in China who is not in possession of a birth permit can be legally arrested by Family Planning Police and forcibly aborted. Her audio/visual presentation was heart wrenching. We are grateful to Ms. Littlejohn and all who are on the forefront of fighting for basic human rights for all, especially the most vulnerable and innocent among us.

In Memorium: Frank Lancelotta Jr.
Frank Lancelotta Jr., the son of Our Lady's Center's legendary founder, Frank Lancelotta Sr., passed away after a long illness on April 25th in Oakland, MD. He was 79 years old. Our Lady's Center has thrived in large part due to the Lancelotta family's charitable foundation founded to honor Frank Sr. and which Frank Jr. greatly expanded, and we will forever be grateful. Read the obituary HERE, and please keep the Lancelotta family in your prayers, many of whom are still in the area and continue to attend Mass at Our Lady's Center.
