Many migrants are still passing through on their way to winter in Mexico, Central or even South America. Native, berry-producing plants can make all the difference to an exhausted bird, like this young Scarlet Tanager pictured below eating a holly berry.

You can also supplement their diet with live mealworms, watermelon, grapes and other fruit or berries. Our friend, Bob Zaremba photographed this stunning male Black-throated Blue Warbler and many other migratory species in their Marietta yard this month.

Fall is the perfect time to take inventory of all your hardware - poles, deck arms, flanges, baffles, ground sockets, etc. Make sure they are holding strong and are rust-free, and do not need to be remounted or replaced before bad winter weather sets in.
