The 2020 trends of office design are all about creating efficient ways to do business. Long gone are the days of working in one-size-fits-all spaces. Companies are beginning to see the impact of ergonomics and functionality when it comes to office furniture and workplace design. Pleasant and comfortable environments, private rooms for private conversations, create and open floor plans, spaces to relax that make life easier will be key to generating greater productivity and effectiveness in the long run.

How to Keep a New Year's Resolution
Image
It can be daunting when your list of New Year’s Resolutions is as long as your holiday shopping list. In addition to the post-holiday slump, not being able to keep your resolutions by February, March or even late January may increase your anxiety. When your holiday decorations are packed up and stored away, the frustration of an unused gym membership or other reminders of failed resolutions can make the later winter months feel hopeless.

However, it is important to remember that the New Year isn’t meant to serve as a catalyst for sweeping character changes. It is a time for people to reflect on their past year’s behavior and promise to make positive lifestyle changes. “Setting small, attainable goals throughout the year, instead of a singular, overwhelming goal on January 1 can help you reach whatever it is you strive for. “Remember, it is not the extent of the change that matters, but rather the act of recognizing that lifestyle change is important and working toward it, one step at a time.”

With just four months under her belt as our new president of Kimball, Phyllis Goetz is making some great waves. Her tremendous energy, foresight, passion, and wealth of experience were evident from her first day on the job and have sparked some exciting new changes. Most important to her though, the essence of Kimball has not changed, and she doesn’t want it to.

Why Adding Personality to the Office
Boosts Engagement
Image
Your office does more than provide a place to work for your employees. It also impacts their mood and productivity. Expert say employees who have creative control over their workspaces are happier, healthier and ultimately more productive.

Whether they share office space or have four walls of their own with a door, employees are excited at the opportunity to add personal touches to their workspace. When employees feel a sense of ownership in their workspaces, they take more pride in their work.

However, most companies are hesitant to give their employees the freedom to creatively personalize their workspaces because too much personalization can turn into creative overload or disaster making the space distracting and unprofessional. The key here, is balance and here are a few things that can help:

  • Whether it’s lamps or string lights, lighting is a big deal! Make sure you choose the right lights for you because everything looks better under good lighting!
  • Spruce up your tack boards with cool pins! Spell out a positive word of the day and get your co-workers motivated!
  • Plants make everything beautiful. In 2020, green walls are definitely at the top of the office décor list. So, let the green take your mind outdoors!
  • Cool photos in cool frames can make your workspace picture perfect. So, go ahead and show off your family and friends in style!
  • Organization is the key to success! Use colorful, chrome or gold desk accessories to make your workspace pop!

Giving your staff the freedom to get creative in their work areas will help you accommodate the diverse work styles and personalities of your employees.

Do it and watch your company’s personality shine!

Three is the Magic Number in Design
  1. When using multiple patterns within a space, it's ideal to use three patterns that relate in color, pattern or style but of different scales (small, medium and large).
  2. When choosing color palette's for your office or open work space, using three colors is a great base. Start with one main color, then pick two complimentary colors to bring it all together.
  3. When space planning furniture, showcasing groups of three is always aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Bonus Tip: adding greenery to your space will “liven” it up, especially during those darker winter months.
Always consider room for growth when planning a new office space. When planning open office layouts, make sure to include plenty of private meeting areas and separate collaborative spaces to help noise levels throughout your office.
