Hi, BirdWatchers!

Spring migration is winding down and our local birds are busy nesting, tending young, or starting on their second brood already. It gets a little quiet at feeders this time of year, and after all the hungry Pine Siskins these past months, it's even more noticeable! But there's no need to worry. Songbirds are busy hunting for berries and insects to feed their young. Seed consumption may slow down, but suet and mealworms are definitely appreciated, and it's so much fun to watch the parents bring their fledglings to the feeders. Birdbaths are a good place to spot birds, especially on hot days. Gotta stay hydrated and keep those feathers pristine! And remember, Ruby-throated Hummingbird season is always busiest from late July through mid September.
One of our favorite birds of Summer is the Gray Catbird. These avian friends winter on the Gulf Coast, the Caribbean and all the way down to Central America and return every year to nest in all Eastern states up into Canada. They have so much personality--curious, tamer than most birds, excellent songsters and love suet, fruit, berries and bugs. We love to hear their catlike "mewing" and lovely songs. They are excellent mimics!

Gray Catbirds often visit our feeders for suet kibbles, suet nuggets, mealworms (live or dried) and red grapes. They are medium-sized birds and platform feeders seem to be their favorites.
