SPECIAL ACTIVITIES THIS MONTH

OLC OPEN REGULAR HOURS FOR LABOR DAY!
Labor Day Blessing of Workers
Monday, September 5th, 12:00 Noon Mass
The Noon Mass intention will be for the sanctification of all who labor to support themselves and their loved ones. We will pray especially for the welfare and safety of all our patrons who are employed, seeking employment, or in danger of losing employment. The Catholic understanding of Labor Day is that the dignity of human work is rooted in the dignity of the human person who is made in the image and likeness of God.
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

Join us for a special opportunity to to be blessed with a sliver of the actual cross upon which Our Lord died for our salvation! Our Lady's Center is the humble steward of this relic which is displayed only twice a year, during Lent and on the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, when we celebrate St. Helena's discovery of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The relic has been verified by Msgr. Jeremiah Kenney.

The Maroney's to Speak at OLC
Friday, October 7th
Dave and Joan Maroney, founders and directors of Mother of Mercy Messengers, are returning to speak at OLC on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This will be the final day of the 54 Day Novena and the day before the National Rosary Rally in DC! The Mother of Mercy Messengers is an apostolate of the Marian Fathers, and the Maroneys have taken the message emanating from the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA to parishes, schools, and conferences across the United States and beyond since 1999. We are excited to welcome them back to OLC. More details to come! The Maroneys are shown on a previous visit to OLC with board member Ada Vergne who is a friend of theirs.

IN THE NEWS...

Fr. Gerard's and Our Prayers Answered!
We have wonderful news to share from Fr. Gerard Lynch, O.SS.T., our regular Monday noon Mass celebrant. His dear friend, an 83 year old Marianite sister from Louisiana, had been kidnapped in Burkino Faso, West Africa earlier this year while doing missionary work. Fr. Gerard had pleaded for our prayers at Masses here for her safe return. Just this morning, Father shared the wonderful news that Sr. Suellen is free! Here is the message from him:

“I just received the news that Sister Suellen Tennyson has been found and she is safe. She is not in the United States yet, but she is on American territory. This is a miracle after 5 months in captivity. A true answer to prayer. Now I will begin my prayers of thanksgiving. Thanks to all for your prayers. Fr. Gerard."

Father had already joyfully agreed to fill in as the celebrant for this coming First Saturday Mass because, he said, "Our Lady is so good to me, so this is my way of saying thank you." Our Lady can never be out done in generosity. Come rejoice with us if you can.

Why Silent Auctions? Our Lady's Center has amassed dozens and dozens of gently-used, lovely, unique and possibly valuable Catholic treasures throughout the years. Many families have brought them to us in hopes that they will find loving homes in faithful households. We have been praying about how to be faithful stewards of these items and how best to reverently and respectfully use them to help raise funds for OLC. Well, what better way than to feature a choice selection every couple weeks, and let our patrons place bids on them? This way, these sacred treasures will go to homes that will treasure them, needed funds will be raised to support OLC, and we will regain much square footage of useable space in our multi-purpose Conference room! We are featuring one or more items for two-week period, with suggested starting bids and as much description and information as we can discover about them. These items will be on display for the two weeks prior to the end of the auction. If you would like to place a bid, call us or stop in. Bidders can also request texted updates before the close of the auction to try to avoid being outbid. Bidding ends at 4 pm every other Monday. Winners will then be notified and payment collected as soon as possible. The next highest bidder will be contacted after a reasonable time has been given for payment.

A Record Turn-Out at Children's Storytime!
18 children came to the final summertime Children's Storytime and Craft last week. That is, we believe, the largest turnout yet. The children enjoyed hearing the story, "My Guardian Angel" and decorated Guardian Angel prayer cards for their rooms. Our Storytime days run throughout the year. Also, keep your eye out for our special children's events, such as our upcoming  All Saints Day Storytime and Parade in November and Our Visit from St. Nicholas in December. More information to come.
