Winter hummingbird reports are coming in!
A returning female Rufous in Athens (photo above by Richard Hall,) a Calliope in Quitman, and several Selasphorus (probable Rufous) in the Atlanta area. If you are lucky enough to host a wintering hummer and would like it banded, please email us at

It's time for the 123rd Christmas Bird Count! Birdwatchers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. You can count for a few hours, or start in the wee hours of the morning for owls and go all day. Either way, it is a fun tradition. Our friends Angie Jenkins and Bob Zaremba are the compilers for the Atlanta count (based in Marietta,) which will be held Saturday, 12/17. Contact one of them if you'd like to be added to a team.

Do you know an enthusiastic young birder? The Georgia Ornithological Society will once again be sending two teen birders to Camp Colorado this summer. It's an incredible opportunity of which my own son was lucky enough to be a 2008 and 2010 recipient. Click here for more information, and remember the deadline is 1/2/23.
