Bird rescue needs a lift!

Hawk Talk is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit that specializes in the care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned birds of prey. It is operated by licensed wildlife rehabber Monteen McCord, who provides medical care and food to the birds, as well as shelter where they can safely recover.

The birds – including owls, hawks and occasional eagles and ospreys – come to Hawk Talk from all over north Georgia. Many have been injured in auto collisions or window collisions, while others have been injured in helpless tangles with string, fishing line or barbed wire fences. Monteen takes them in and helps them heal, then releases them back to the wild.

Hawk Talk is in desperate need of a reliable vehicle for transporting the birds and for hauling food and habitat materials. The 2004 Jeep Cherokee that Monteen currently uses is at the end of its life, and constant repairs are draining funds that are better spent on daily care of the birds.

As a not-for-profit, Hawk Talk relies upon donations. It has raised $5,000 and needs another $8,000 to purchase a used vehicle to replace the Cherokee.

Please join us in helping Hawk Talk meet its goal! We are three women who met Monteen after finding an injured owl that had collided with a car. When no veterinarians could help us, a call to Animal Services led us to Hawk Talk. In our effort to save one owl, we discovered a woman who works to save many. For 40+ years, she has poured her heart and resources into caring for raptors.
