With their festive foliage, leaf-wrapped cheeses are especially perfect for this season. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing for your fall fetes, but the leaves are often soaked in some kind of liquor or wine, which infuses the cheeses with even more exceptional flavors.

We hope to see you this Saturday to sample three cheeses, including a seasonal favorite of both our customers and staff- Rogue River Blue!

Rogue River Blue is back! This seasonal favorite is an award-winning raw milk blue cheese from Oregon, and is considered to be America's answer to the most prestigious French Blues. It is wrapped in grape leaves that have been macerated in pear brandy and has an out-of-this-world flavor- enjoy notes of fruit, spice, blackberry, vanilla, hazelnut, chocolate and bacon! Serve with  dried apricots or pears, Felino and other salamis, and honey. Pair with bold, aged wines: Viognier, classic French or German Gewürztraminers, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, dessert wines; pear brandy; whiskey or bourbon; hazelnut porter or chocolate stout.

Capriole O'Banon is an ACS award-winning goat's milk cheese by Judy Schad of Capriole in Greenville, Indiana. While banon has been made in Provence for centuries, cheese aficionado Steve Jenkins made this American version famous by writing in his Cheese Primer that Capriole's O'Banon was "much, much better than any I've tasted in France." It is larger and fresher than the French, and the chestnut leaves used to wrap the cheese are soaked in Woodford Reserve Bourbon, as opposed to the traditional eau de vie. The tannin in the leaves and bourbon combine to give the dense, creamy cheese just a little kick, and it is visually stunning on a cheeseboard. Serve at room temperature with sliced apples, fresh figs, or pears. Or try it grilled or baked- place the cheese, still in it's leaves, either on a cooler part of a grill, or in a 375 degree oven for five to ten minutes, or until the center is very soft to the touch and the leaves are hot and toasty! Slice open to reveal the warmed, softened center, and serve with crostini or fresh crusty bread and fruit. Pair with Fruity champagnes and California Viogniers.

Meadowood Farms Ledyard is a soft-ripened sheep's milk cheese made in the style of Robiola at idyllic Meadowood Farms in Cazenovia, New York. It is wrapped in locally harvested grape leaves that have been soaked in Deep Purple, a wheat beer made with Madison County Concord grapes. It is aged for 4-6 weeks, resulting in a dense, fudgy paste, and a wonderfully surprising complexity of flavors. Serve it at room temperature with some crusty bread, and pair with dessert wines, Port, full-bodied reds, Rose, Sherry, sparkling whites, dry or sweet white wines, Belgian beers, brown ale, pale ale, IPA, and cider.
